The recent release of Kollywood Superstar Ilayathalapathy Vijay , Siddique directed “ Kaavalan” has been selected for the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF) in China, which is one of the most prestigious film festivals in Asia. The film has been selected in the Panorama section by the SIFF from nearly 2500 odd films from various countries in the world.
“ Kaavalan” was a turning point in Ilaya Thalapathi’s career in which his awesome performance has been talked about and the film itself was a huge hit over Tamil Nadu. Even though “Kaavalan” faced many problems before its release from the theatre owners it became the blockbuster of the year 2011.
The movie was planned as a Diwali release , but due to many issues ( this is said to be because of Vijay’s political entry ) the release was postponed and after facing much difficulties Vijay had tried his best for the release of the movie and the film had hit the screens on Pongal day- Jan 15, 2011.The Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF), founded in 1993, is China’s only A-category international film festival accredited by the FIAPF (stands for International Federation of Film Producers Associations based in Paris). The movie will be competing with 200 other films from various languages for the prestigious Golden Goblet Best Film Award, which is instituted by Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture, Radio, Film & TV and Shanghai Media & Entertainment Group.
Barry Levinson and six other International judges will attend the Fest. The exact date of Screening “ Kaavalan” is not verified.
A happy news for Ilayathalapathy fans is that Vijay has been invited as a special guest for taking part in the Film Fest and the 14th SIFF will start on June 11.
