Following the meeting at the Film Chamber involving all the stake holders the decision to indefinitely postpone Thalaivaa's release seems to have been taken on account of security reasons.
The filmmakers had approached the government of Tamil Nadu seeking police protection across the state for all theatres screening the film in the wake of the alarming bomb threats that were supposedly received by some cinema halls. The police however turned down the request stating logistic challenges that would arise in a requirement of such a large scale. One might remember that the government had stated the same reason during the Vishwaroopam issue.
Meanwhile, the word is that the film will release as planned in the rest of the country and the rest of the world. The only affected territories we hear are Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. Additionally the city's commissioner of police has instructed the makers to take down all hoardings of the film across Chennai.
An official statement of the turn of events is still awaited and so is the new release date.
